SnapsVault: Open Snapshot Marketplace

Open Snapshot Marketplace

This documentation introduces SnapsVault and details the architecture, components, and contributor guidelines for discovering, publishing, verifying, and integrating standardized blockchain snapshots across supported networks.

The Problem

Bootstrapping a blockchain node can be painfully slow. Syncing from genesis may take days or weeks, and there is often no reliable source for up‑to‑date snapshots. Operators end up hunting through chat channels, forums or scattered links; manually unpacking and validating unknown files; and wrestling with incomplete data.

Even when a snapshot is found, it may lack essential metadata, such as pruning method, block height, chain ID or integrity hashes, so errors surface only after hours of work.

This fragmented, trial‑and‑error process wastes time for hobbyists and large teams alike, delays upgrades, and complicates recovery after failures. SnapsVault was built to solve this.

About SnapsVault

SnapsVault is an open, community‑driven marketplace where anyone can publish, discover and download standardized snapshots from a single trusted source.

Whether you are recovering from a crash, bootstrapping a fresh node or sharing snapshots with others, this ecosystem removes guesswork, reduces setup time and ensures that every archive is reliable, verifiable and easy to apply.

SnapsVault is designed for:

  • Node operators who want faster, safer synchronization.
  • Developers who test or debug networks without syncing from genesis.
  • Validator teams managing snapshots across multiple chains.
  • Contributors building tools or publishing trusted snapshots.

Supported networks are listed on the Coverage page and will expand based on community demand.

Core Components

SnapsVault consists of three integrated components that work together to form a seamless snapshot ecosystem:

  • Framework: A lightweight system for creating and sharing snapshots with all necessary details (chain ID, block height, pruning type, compression format). It uses JSON schemas to enforce consistency and automate tasks.
  • Marketplace: A web interface where users can browse, search and download verified snapshots. Filters by chain, network, block height, type, contributor and date help you find the exact snapshot you need.
  • SnapsOS: A command-line tool that automates the entire snapshot workflow, from discovery and download to verification and deployment. It connects to the marketplace API, lists available chains, fetches files and prepares your node.

Each component serves a specific role: the Framework standardizes snapshots, the Marketplace makes them discoverable and SnapsOS automates their use.

Why Use SnapsVault?

SnapsVault addresses the pain points of snapshot management by providing a shared solution that scales from solo operators to large teams:

  • Standardization & Verification: All snapshots follow the same metadata format, with chain ID and block height included, so you always know what you are getting. Built-in hash checks and schema validation protect against corruption.
  • Efficiency & Automation: Optimized download links and automated scripts reduce node startup and recovery time. CLI operations allow headless workflows and easy integration with existing systems.
  • Discovery & Filters: Advanced filters let you locate snapshots by network, date, type and more, while rich metadata displays file size, creation date and contributor info.
  • Continuous Updates: Snapshots are refreshed regularly, so you always have access to current data without constant monitoring.

Quickstart

To get started with SnapsVault, choose the method that best fits your workflow:

  • Use the Marketplace UI: Browse and download snapshots via an intuitive web interface designed for easy searching and filtering.
  • Install & Use SnapsOS CLI: Automate snapshot workflows from your terminal. Follow the CLI guide for installation and usage details.

Get Involved

SnapsVault is an active project, and community participation is welcome. You can:
